At Emetheni you can expect a personalised treatment plan, every individual is different and we structure your treatment needs and requirements on a personal level. We offer a natural rejuvenated look that preserves your attractiveness over time. Our aim is to minimise the ageing process and have you looking rejuvenated and refreshed all year round.

The treatment of lines and wrinkles involves a combination of therapies. The most commonly performed procedures involve using a muscle relaxant to relax certain wrinkles and lines and dermal fillers to fill deeper lines, enhance areas, or restore volume. There is an art to muscle relaxant treatments & facial sculpting that involves subtlety and considering each individual's needs. Dr Morley only uses the most popular and well known muscle relaxant made by Alllergan pharmaceuticals. These simple, effective non-surgical treatments can leave you looking youthful and more refreshed.

Injectable fillers are substances designed to:

  • Enhance volume
  • Erase wrinkles
  • Augment lips, noses and cheeks
  • Induce collagen production
  • Restore the youthful 3-dimensional contour of the face.

There are many filler choices: Some are designed for filling fine lines and wrinkles and augmenting specific features such as the lips , while others are designed as volumisers that are meant to fill larger volume loss like sunken cheeks, lost cheekbones, and very deep nasolabial folds and marionette lines. At Emetheni , Dr Morley only uses the most popular and well known dermal fillers made by Alllergan pharmaceuticals.

Natural substances such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid that provide the skin with structure and volume decrease with age. The lips in particular have an extremely thin outer skin layer which becomes progressively thinner with age. This, together with environmental factors such as exposure to sunlight, smoking and stress, all contribute to how our lips age and the formation of lip wrinkles.

Injectable Lip Enhancement

  • Dermal fillers can be injected into the lips and the areas around the lips to enhance the shape or size of lips
  • Volume loss of the lips occurs naturally with time, and replacing this volume can result in more youthful looking lips
  • Dr Morley's main priority is to achieve natural-looking lips and will not give you an over-done or trout-pout lip
  • Anaesthetic is injected to numb the lips prior to lip enhancement
  • Areas such as the vermillion border, the philtrul columns, cupids bow, and lip body can be enhanced
  • Fine lines and smoker's lines can be smoothed out
  • There may be some swelling and bruising after lip enhancement

Ultraformer Skin Tightening Therapy

A completely non-invasive skin lifting treatment by Ultraformer. It uses high intensity focused ultrasound to lift and tighten the skin without downtime.

Results can be seen immediately and improve significantly over time. Highly effective in treating the jawline, nasilabial folds, sagging eyelids, loose neck fold, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone or texture and large pores. The Ultraformer machine has three types of cartridges which can treat various problems at once, including loose skin on the abdomen.

One of the key effects of ageing is that our faces lose volume. All of us loose facial volume from the lower face through a decrease in collagen, hyaluronic acid and fat under the skin. When we are young, our faces are full and voluminous, without any wrinkles. As we get older the volume in our face decreases and our faces become deflated, the volume is lost and wrinkles and folds start to form.

Volume is lost in many areas of the face as we get older. The areas that lose volume include; the cheeks, the brow, and the lips. As the cheeks sag and lose volume, they descend from their usual high position in the face near the eyes, to a lower position. This leads to the formation of nasolabial folds (the folds from the corners of the nose to the mouth), oral commissures (the folds just beneath the corners of the mouth), and then jowls ( the skin that sags beneath the jawline). Loss of volume in the lips leads to thinner lips with less definition in the formation of vertical upper lip lines. See Lip Enhancement above.

Treatment of volume loss involves use of dermal fillers to replace volume in specific areas such as the cheeks, brow, temples, jawline, jowls etc. Another option is the use of a Collagen Stimulation with Sculptra to give a subtle, gradual, and progressive improvement in volume. Visit the Sculptra website to find out more.

The cheeks are a very important feature of the mid-face. Your eye is naturally drawn to the cheek area because it connects the eyes and the lips - the two most important structures for communication and expression. Cheeks in a youthful-looking face have smooth contours and are full of volume. In fact, our cheeks are generally at their most voluminous and smooth when we are babies. However, the shape of the cheeks changes with age due to a loss of facial fullness and facial volume redistribution. Over time, the amount of soft tissue volume over the cheekbones decreases.

Replacing volume in the cheeks is therefore one of the most important areas to fill when rejuvenating the face. With inadequate cheek volume, the face can appear flattened and lack the natural youthful curves provided by fuller cheeks. Various Dermal Fillers can be injected into the cheeks. Dr Morley routinely uses a longer lasting filler made by Allergan. One of the advantages of treating the cheeks is that it lifts the entire face and reduces nasolabial lines and jowls. The shape of the face can be reverted to a youthful 'upside down triangle' with cheek fillers from a more square shaped face.

According to a cosmetic and plastic surgery consumer survey, many Australians would like to change the size or shape of their nose. While it is difficult to describe the ideal nose, it has been claimed that it is the one that `most harmoniously relates to the other facial features'. Straight, symmetrical noses with no obvious bumps or dents complement an attractive face. Even small changes in the nose can have a major impact on how you look overall. Dr Peter Morley uses a combination on muscle relaxing products and HA fillers to re-shape, re-position and make minor corrections to the nose.

Total facial rejuvenation involves a comprehensive analysis and assessment of your health, skin condition, facial shape, facial volume, lines and wrinkles etc. Dr Morley believes in a holistic approach to facial rejuvenation. This may involve general measures before he even starts addressing cosmetic concerns, such as addressing general health, natural hormone replacement and help with quitting smoking. He will assess you skin for sun damage and possible skin cancers. Your skin may need repair and rejuvenation with appropriate medical grade skin care, PDT, IPL, Laser, Chemical peels etc. Your facial shape may need addressing, eg large pronounced masseters from teeth grinding may be giving a pronounced square jaw line. Laxity of the jowls may benefit from facial thread lifting. Loss of volume in the face, cheeks, lips may need fillers. Your whole face may benefit from  a course of collagen stimulating treatments. Strong frown lines, and other wrinkles may need relaxing injections.

The best approach is to book an appointment with Dr Morley for a consultation to address your concerns.

Excessive skin pigmentation is a result of abnormal production and deposition of melanin by the melanocytes. Melanocytes are pigment-producing cells. The number of melanocytes present in our skin will determine our skin colour. Production of melanin is dependent on UV or sun exposure, and is a natural protective mechanism of the skin. Hyperpigmentation, or areas that are darker than the rest of the skin, result from excess melanin production and deposition.

Reasons for skin pigmentation problems are:

  • UV radiation - in most cases, especially in  areas of high UV radiation levels like Australia, skin pigmentation problems can be caused by excessive UV or sun exposure (most common)
  • Hormonal - as seen in melasma or chloasma that is a type of pigmentation usually caused by pregnancy or the pill (common)
  • Trauma to the skin - this can be a result of physical trauma to the skin, chemical peels, laser treatments, or acne. This is known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (common).
  • Birthmarks and acquired pigmentation - skin pigmentation can be present at birth (birthmarks), appear in childhood, or adulthood. Examples of these include; congenital melanocytic naevus, cafe au lait spots, spilus naevus, hori's macules, and naevus of ota.

Treating pigmentation is dependant on a variety of factors including your natural  skin colour, depth, type, and cause of pigmentation irregularity. Dr Morley will thoroughly examine and assess your skin and recommend any combination of treatments, including:

  • IPL Photo rejuvenation
  • Dual Yellow Laser
  • Medical peels
  • Medical grade skin care

IPL Photo Rejuvenation

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photo Rejuvenation refers to the use of a light source (photo) to restore the skin’s vitality and youthful appearance (rejuvenate).

The choice of which light source is best will vary between individuals depending on their particular skin problem, skin type and skin sensitivity. Generally in photo-rejuvenation, IPL technology is preferred to target generalised problems such as redness, flushing, irregular mottled pigmentation, hyper-pigmentation, large open pores and uneven skin tone. IPL utilises the power of pulsed light technology over multiple wavelengths to reach underlying skin tissue at different depths. A series of treatments is required for optimal results and there is minimal discomfort and downtime. Any area of the body can be treated but it is most commonly used on the face, neck, chest  and hands.

At Emetheni we use the revolutionary Elōs Technology made by Syneron. The combination of energies offers a complete solution to the challenges of skin treatment with reduced overall required energy output — enabling safe, effective treatment. Highly selective light energies are absorbed by the hemoglobin and pigmented lesions, but not significantly absorbed by the normal dermis. Electrical energies selectively heat blood vessels — while minimising the effect on pigmented structure. This technology sets Elos apart from regular IPL machines and delivers superior and safer results. We will frequently combine treatments to get the best skin rejuvenation results. eg, Refirme ELOS Skin Tightening to tighten the skin, and Fractional RF to improve the texture of the skin. Stubborn vascular and pigmentation lesions can also be treated with the Copper Bromide Laser. As always we advise all patients be on a quality skin care regime to enhance the results, such as our Rationale range.

Fractional RF Rejuvenation

Fractional RF / Also known as Sublative Rejuvenation or Matrix RF - A unique technology that delivers beautiful results. Many people desire the effects of full skin resurfacing for fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scarring, but the downtime of most associated procedures and the possible risks keep many people from enduring the pricey procedures of CO2 or erbium lasers, Fraxel, and others. To fill the need for a machine that gave the effects of these procedures, but without the downtime, pain, and cost, Syneron (the pioneers of ELOS  IPL technology) created the Matrix RF treatment, also known as Fractional RF or Sublative resurfacing.

This new advancement in rejuvenation creates microscopic channels in the skin which are surrounded by areas of healthy untreated skin ensuring a quick recovery time. The treated areas stimulate collagen production for the improvement of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, sun damage and textural irregularities.

Sublative Rejuvenation treatment may result in improvement of:

  • Wrinkles
  • Skin laxity
  • Scars
  • Acne scars
  • Textural irregularities
  • Tone

Dr. Morley recently introduced this innovative skin resurfacing procedure to Emetheni with an outcome of tremendous results and many happy patients.

Skin Tightening

Refirme ELOS  Skin Tightening is one of the newest and brightest editions to the field of clinical skin tightening. Powered by state-of-the-art ELOS technology, Refirme utilises both infrared light energy and bi-polar radio frequency energy to heat dermal tissue. This heat helps activate the body's natural collagen production, helping in the process of wrinkle removal while firming and tightening loose or sagging skin. Because Refirme Skin Tightening uses far less optical energy than some other IPL systems, it is also one of the least painful skin rejuvenation treatments available. Most patients report little to no discomfort during their treatments, and no recovery time is needed once the procedure is completed. When it comes to swift, effective facial rejuvenation, Refirme is generating a whole lot of interest, both for its ability to smooth away fine lines and its equal status as a leading skin tightening treatment. A typical session only takes about 45 minutes, and many patients complete their full treatment in just a few visits. In terms of budgeting for your treatments of Refirme, cost comparisons show that Refirme stands favorably along side similar skin firming procedures like Thermage and Titan. And because of the safety precautions of ELOS, people of all skin types can enjoy the benefits of a Refirme skin treatment.

The Refirme ELOS Skin Tightening procedure, features revolutionary ELOS technology that enables you to comfortably achieve a more youthful, tightened and lifted appearance. The treatment is quick, safe and has no downtime.

Let us show you how you can achieve a more youthful, toned and defined appearance without enduring.

Dual Yellow Laser

The Copper Bromide DUAL YELLOW laser emits yellow light which is absorbed by blood vessels (red and pink pigmentation in the skin) and green light which is absorbed by Melanin (brown pigmentation in the skin). Each colour of light can be used independently, or in combination. The dual Yellow Laser is able to treat a variety of conditions. These include:

  • Brown spots: freckles, flat moles
  • Blood vessels: broken capillaries, rosacea, cherry spots and birthmarks
  • Solid lesions: seborrhoeic keratoses, moles, skin tags and benign papules
  • Acne
  • Pink stretch marks
  • Sundamaged skin on face, neck, chest and backs of hands
  • Pore size, skin texture and fine lines

Some procedures may even attract a Medicare Rebate when the Dual Yellow laser is used. Almost all skin types can be treated for the conditions mentioned above. Each person's response is different depending on a variety of factors including skin type, colour intensity, type and depth of the lesions to be treated.

Sun Damaged Skin/ PDT

Sun Damaged skin can be improved with  a variety of treatments including medical grade skin care, IPL, Laser, Chemical peels etc, but a revolutionary new treatment for significantly damaged skin of the face and all other areas is called PhotoDynamic Therapy or PDT.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)

PhotoDynamic Therapy is a unique treatment for unhealthy sun damaged skin on the face and body. This treatment is particularly suited to those with roughened sun spots and pre-cancerous lesions on the skin or advanced sun damage which we see in a large number of Australians. Until now the only options we have had available are cryotherapy or freezing which can leave permanent white scars or skin cancer creams such as Efudix or Aldara which cause an unsightly appearance for 4-6 weeks. Exciting results have also been achieved for those suffering from severe types of acne. This is a new, safe technique that has changed the way Doctors treat disfiguring skin conditions producing clear healthy skin. There are also significant cosmetic benefits to PDT. If the skin is also pigmented, it may be beneficial to do a full face IPL treatment. This will even out the skin colour, tone and texture and reduce the appearance of blood vessels, freckles, sun spots and pigmentation. Also See IPL Photo Rejuvenation.

PDT is photodynamic therapy and involves simple preparation of the skin and application of special light activated lotion called 5- ALA . This active ingredient is absorbed into the damaged skin cells and the cells become extremely light sensitive. The skin is then exposed to a special blue then red light, which activates the treatment. It is approved for the treatment of superficial BCC, Bowen's disease and actinic/solar keratoses (commonly known as sunspots). Common side effects include mild to moderate redness and swelling which often resolve rapidly. Due to the selective nature of PDT treatment, healthy tissue is left unharmed and scarring is minimal.

Though there are obvious cosmetic benefits to the use of Photodynamic therapy, this treatment also holds long term health benefits. The treatment is predominantly used to deal with solar damage. Aside from the decidedly unappealing look of the blotchy, white and dark areas that are found after long-term damage to the arms, legs, torso and the face, these "sun-spots" can manifest into more dangerous conditions. There are currently many practitioners world-wide that encourage the use of PDT not only as a cosmetic procedure, but as an annual preventative measure to treat and inhibit further sun-damage or acne.

Dr Morley uses a combination of therapies to treat capillary damage including IPL and Dual Yellow Copper Bromide Laser.

Many people are troubled by unsightly blood vessels on their skin. These are generally caused by years of sun exposure and may be aggravated by facial flushing. One of the commonest conditions, “ Broken Capillaries “, are medically known as Telangiectasia. These are fine red capillaries on the face, especially the cheek and nose. They also appear commonly in the décolletage area.

Another problem frequently treated is Spider Veins. These occur as a result of pressure from underlying vessels which cause prominent veins on the skins surface. They commonly occur on the side of the nose. All these problems can be successfully treated with IPL and Laser.

Acne and Acne Scarring

No one factor causes acne. As physicians understand it, acne happens when oil (sebaceous) glands come to life around puberty, when these glands are stimulated by hormonal changes in the body.

The oil glands, which are located just beneath the skin, continuously produce and secrete oil through openings in the skin. The oil lubricates and protects the skin. Under certain circumstances, cells that are close to the openings of the oil glands block the openings. This causes a buildup of oil underneath the skin.

Bacteria, which live in everyone’s skin but generally mind their own business, feast on this oil, multiply, and cause the surrounding tissues to become inflamed.

Emetheni offers many acne treatment options. Dr Morley will recommend any combination of the following treatments after assessing your skin.

  • Medical grade acne specific skin care, such as Rationale Sebocyte products.
  • Topical (externally applied) Antibiotics and Antibacterials.
  • Retinoids: Retin-A/ Stieva / Retrieve etc have been around for years. These are especially helpful for unclogging pores and reducing oil production.
  • Oral antibiotics.
  • Oral contraceptives: Can manipulate the hormonal effect of acne.
  • Isotretinoin (Roaccutane): Isotretinoin is a wonderful treatment for severe, resistant acne however there are many side effects. The most important issue with isotretinoin is contraception. Women of childbearing age must be sure they cannot become pregnant while taking this drug or for one month after stopping it, because of risk of birth defects. In Australia it can only be prescribed by a specialist dermatologist.
  • Photodynamic Acne Treatment: This treatment combines acid and light energy delivered via both laser and non-laser light to produce rapid results for clearing acne lesions. There is some redness, sun sensitivity, and skin peeling for a couple of days following the treatment.
  • Chemical peels.
  • Microdermabrasion is a nice surface repair treatment and can help unclog pores. It is frequently combined with chemical peels for the best results.
  • ELOS IPL. Intense Pulsed Light can help reduce the inflammation and redness and kill acne bacteria. It also has a collagen stimulation to aid repair of the skin.

For moderate to severe acne Photodynamic Therapy works very well with quick results. Acne treatments using Photodynamic Therapy is the most recent advance in acne therapy. Photodynamic acne treatment involves the application of a photosensitizing agent, which is then activated. This results in significant improvement in moderate to severe cystic acne. Photodynamic Therapy for acne involves three mechanisms of action against acne. The treatment inactivates the bacteria that trigger acne, exfoliates the skin to unclog pores, and the most exciting mechanism is that the treatment shuts down the sebaceous glands in the skin. This is exciting because sebaceous glands are the root cause in the formation of acne so it has a long lasting effect even on severe acne.

This acne therapy can even work in patients who have failed Roaccutane.

Acne can leave behind a variety of possible scars ranging from superficial pitted scars to deep depressed scars. The best treatments for acne scars involve microdermabrasion for fine scarring to skin rolling, skin needling, PRP and fractional RF for deeper scars. Some deep ice pick scars can be treated with simple surgical techniques, such as subcision, and some keloid scars may need cortisone injections. Dr Morley and the Emetheni team will find the treatment that is the most suitable treatment technique for you.

Regen / Platelet Rich Plasma ( PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a procedure which involves taking a blood sample, concentrating the platelets from that sample, and re-injecting those concentrated platelets back into the body to assist healing and regenerate tissue. This occurs because the platelets secrete a concentrated mix of growth factors. These growth factors stimulate repair cells. It is the same mechanism that heals a paper cut but magnified.

It can treat:

  • Jaw Line and lower face
  • Acne scarring
  • Neck crinkling
  • Cheeks and Mid Face volume loss
  • Chest and Decolletage
  • Back of hands and arms
  • Crinkling skin around the eyes

PRP is also used in facial surgery and to repair muscle injuriesPRP is not for everyone. It cannot be used by smokers, those with platelet abnormalities, or anyone on Aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication such as Nurofen or Voltaren. A full discussion of the risks and benefits is available by free consultation.

Facial Peels

Facial Peels or "Chemical Peels" have long been one of the gold standards in cosmetic enhancements of the facial skin. Chemical peeling of the face has been performed for many years. The ancient Egyptians used particles of alabaster mixed with milk and honey to abrade facial skin to create tightening. Cleopatra was said to have bathed in sour milk and French women were known to have applied fermented wine to their faces to improve the quality of their skin.

Chemical peels are a method of regenerating and resurfacing the skin by inducing a controlled wound to the skin. A chemical peel is designed to accelerate the removal of old, dead skin cells at the surface of the skin to promote new cell growth and accelerate rejuvenation, therefore improving sun-damaged skin, skin pigmentation problems, wrinkles, skin texture, and the overall appearance of the skin. The strength of the chemical peel will determine its depth. Deeper peels will have a greater number of complications and a longer recovery, but also will result in a greater improvement in the skin. Our routine chemical peels are very gentle can be performed in your lunch hour. Return to work glowing, with no down time at all The majority of peels we perform produce a lighter peel with no downtime, however we can offer deeper or more aggressive peels depending on your skin’s needs. Our therapist will advise you of the best options after assessing your skin.

Chemical peels correct a variety of skin imperfections such as blemishes, wrinkles, and uneven pigmentation. They exfoliate the outer layers of dead skin, revealing new skin with improved tone, texture, and colour. Chemical peels reduce or eliminate acne scars, sun damage, and other skin imperfections. There are several types of chemical peels, each designed for different types and degrees of skin problems. Treatment plans are tailored to each individual skin type. If required a more intense peel can be performed by Dr. Morley depending on your individual needs.

At Emetheni we use the Rationale Skin care system for all our routine peels, this is supported by a fantastic at home treatment system.

We also offer the Enerpeel system for deeper peels, these are highly effective for treatment of more extensive sun damage, mylasma, rosacea, scarring, fine lines and pigmentation.  Find out more about the Enerpeel system here.

Medical Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is the system of pushing specially refined crystals at high velocity onto the surface of the skin to exfoliate dead skin cells and promote the generation of new skin cells, thereby creating a skin surface which is youthful and glowing. The vacuum suction nozzle performing a dual role: to suction the skin and promote lymphatic drainage and to remove excess crystals and abraded skin cells.

This procedure can be used to treat a number of skin conditions and complaints, and results can be seen following just one treatment. As further treatments are undertaken, results become even clearer to see and feel. Microdermabrasion can be used as a stand alone treatment or combined with almost any other facial treatment. At Emetheni we use the Clairderm Microdermabrasion system Cheeks, lost cheekbones, and very deep nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

Skin Needling (Also known as Dermastamping)

Skin needling is a non-invasive results orientated technology. This procedure uses a roller with microscopic needles between 0.15mm to 2.0mm long. As the needles are rolled over the skin, tiny punctures are created within the epidermis and dermis that encourage the skin's own natural healing response. There are no injections, incisions or stitches. As the medical grade, stainless steel needles penetrate, they effectively create microscopic trauma deep within the skin's matrix. The skin reacts and tiny electrical signals are released which create a wound healing response. The needles and rolling mechanism are specifically designed to target and penetrate only sections (or fractions) of the skin each treatment. As a result there is less downtime, less discomfort and an almost immediate outcome.

Skin Needling is used to:

  • Stimulate the production of collagen
  • Assist in the absorption of cosmetic products
  • Reduce the appearance of wrinkles, pigmentation and sun damage
  • Treat acne, pimples and blackheads
  • Reduce the appearance of scarring, stretch marks and cellulite
  • Reduce the appearance of enlarged pores
  • Treat alopecia and encourage the growth of stronger thicker hair

The treatment is carried out using topical anaesthetic cream. Afterwards your skin will be red but you can return to normal activities immediately. The redness can be covered with mineral make-up. Home treatment rollers are also available. These have much shorter needles which only microscopically break the surface of the skin. When used with your regular skin care routine, this will assist with absorption and enable you to get maximum benefit from the products. These can be purchased at Emetheni.

Bruxism is characterised by the grinding of the teeth and is typically accompanied by the clenching of the jaw leading to morning migraines, headaches, jaw and TMJ pain. No exact figures on the frequency of bruxism are available as over 80% of all bruxers may be unaware of the habit and the diagnosis is usually made when the teeth are examined by a dental surgeon. For these reasons, estimates of the prevalence of bruxism range from 5% to 20%.
