FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - MICRODERMABRASION
What makes the Clairderm Microdermabrasion system the latest and best in microdermabrasion technology on the market?
The Clairderm Microdermabrasion system was put together by a European Engineer who worked amongst many other systems aware of their pro's and con's. He was able to develop a microdermabrasion machine that simply did not have the disadvantages other systems had. Here are some of the key areas which we believe gives us the most superior system on the market:
Hygiene: Incorporates the highest industry standard in hygiene due to the 2 loop system– ie: one tube projects crystals, the other suctions with the vacuum which ensures no cross contamination as they do not suction and project at the same time. Further, hygiene is maintained through the use of disposable nozzles, allowing a new nozzle for each client.
Flexibility: Clairderm Microdermabrasion machines have been designed to provide a range of treatments from very soft and delicate applications, to more powerful and deep applications. This allows the clinician to tailor a treatment to the customer's skin type, providing a more beneficial treatment for the customer. You also have the option of using crystals or using a diamond head for resurfacing treatments.
What skin conditions and complaints can microdermabrasion treat?
Microdermabrasion provides excellent results for the following conditions:
- Fine lines
- Sun-damaged skin
- Acne and acne scars
- Scar reduction
- Excess oil production
- Blackheads and whiteheads
- Enlarged and open pores
- Superficial age spots
- Dull, stressed and congested skin
- Skin pigmentation
With conditions such as acne it may be necessary to combine microdermabrasion with other medical therapies such as peels, dermal rolling and IPL.
What happens in a typical treatment?
During treatment a fine jet of aluminium oxide crystals are sprayed on the skin and simultaneously vacuumed away with the microdermabrasion device. This has the effect of gently smoothing the skin surface and removing the outer layer of dead skin cells. With repeated treatments this results in a permanent reduction of skin surface irregularities.
For optimum skin results, how many treatments are recommended?
You will get visible improvements with 6 microdermabrasion skin treatments. That is one treatment per week for six weeks in a course of treatments. Naturally, maintenance is a great idea with one treatment per month once one has achieved the desired skin result.
Is a microdermabrasion treatment more effective for the skin than normal facial treatments?
Yes, the action of the microdermabrasion promotes skin rejuvenation producing new collagen. It does this by providing a superior exfoliation and aids lymphatic processes deep within the skin. This is much more powerful than a stand alone cosmetic product application. The microdermabrasion treatment is strong enough to ensure excellent results on its own, but gentle enough to be used in conjunction with other treatments.
Is there any down time
No. Microdermabrasion is not a harsh or deep treatment requiring days to heal. Some redness may occur and this will vary between customers, however most redness will subside within 24 hours. Make-up can be applied immediately following the procedure which enables customers to have the treatment done during a lunch break and then return to work.
Are there any special skin care requirements for following a microdermabrasion procedure?
By removing the uppermost layer of skin, microdermabrasion encourages new skin cell generation. Procedures can make the skin much more porous and sensitive to sunlight. Dr Morley strongly recommends that following a microdermabrasion treatment, you diligently apply sunscreen and Niacinamide. Dr Morley or your therapist will advise what other skin care products you should be using.
Are there any precautions to take whilst undergoing a microdermabrasion treatment?
It is recommended that invasive procedures are avoided directly before or after a microdermabrasion treatment. Waxing should not be undertaken 2 days prior to a treatment or for at least 7 days following a treatment. We strongly suggest that you do not use sun beds or swim in heavily chlorinated water for at least 2 weeks following a treatment.
